Our Story
What started as Ugly Mugs, our original coffee bus concept, has grown into something even closer to our hearts. After months of hard work, creativity, and prayerful intention, we’re proud to introduce Rooted Starr — a fresh rebrand and a renewed vision we’re bringing to the Bitterroot Valley.
Meet Adelaida & Lauren
Adelaida
After graduating high school four years ago, I took a different route—one that led me across the world. I spent that time traveling, meeting incredible people, and experiencing new cultures that shaped me in ways I didn’t expect. Those years pushed me, inspired me, and sparked a dream I couldn’t shake.
When I came back home, I knew I didn’t just want to start a business—I wanted to build something meaningful. Something grounded in those experiences and the connections I made along the way. Rooted Starr is the result of that journey—the growth, the lessons, and the vision finally coming to life.
Lauren
Lauren, my younger sister, is my best friend and my partner in all of this. Truly, none of it would be possible without her. She has been my steady rock throughout this entire process — all while balancing the demands of her busy work schedule and a full social life. Her creativity, organization, and incredibly well-scheduled brain have been the backbone of this rebrand. She brings structure to my big ideas, and together we’ve poured our hearts into creating something new and unique for this community.
None of this would have been possible without a huge helping hand from our dad. From the earliest planning stages to the countless hours of building, fixing, problem-solving, and cheering us on, he’s been there every step of the way. What started as our dream quickly became a true family project, and his support, hard work, and belief in us helped turn this idea into something real.
Rooted Starr represents growth, faith, resilience, and staying grounded in who we are while reaching for something greater. This rebrand isn’t just a new name — it’s a new chapter.
This name also carries a deeper meaning for us. It honors our cousin, Amber Starr, who we lost to suicide. Amber had a bright spirit and a way of bringing joy to people around her. Losing her changed our family forever, and this business is one small way we hope to carry a piece of her light forward.
Because of that, our heart behind Rooted Starr goes beyond coffee. We want this to be a place that reminds people to slow down, to connect, and to be kind — not only to others, but to yourself too. Mental health matters, and sometimes the smallest moments of connection can make the biggest difference.
We’ve worked tirelessly to bring something fresh and unique to the Bitterroot Valley: bold flavors, thoughtful details, and an experience that feels both welcoming and intentional.
To us, this isn’t just coffee.
It’s connection.
It’s community.
It’s celebrating the perfectly imperfect and creating a space where people feel seen, known, and valued.
In many ways, this is about spreading a little extra joy in the world — the kind Amber brought so naturally. We hope this place reminds people that they matter, that they’re not alone, and that kindness (especially toward yourself) goes a long way.
We’re so excited for this new season and can’t wait to serve you.
Come grab a cup. Let's get rooted!
